The cabin of the SIMONA Research Simulator is made of lightweight materials and holds a two person flight deck. The SRS’ glass cockpit is similar to a modern transport aircraft, and provides programmable instrumentation to match any aircraft type.
An aramid-carbon fibre shell serves as upper motion platform structure and houses the interior. This stiff structure together with the motion system yields a high motion bandwidth and supports the reduction of onset time delays due to favorable inertial properties. With all systems and occupants on board, the total mass of the cabin will not exceed 4,500 kg.
The interior is designed to host flight-decks of modern transport aircraft and helicopters in a modular format. The current configuration matches a two pilot transport aircraft arrangement. High-performance graphics display hardware with five 15-inch full-color screens is used to create a quickly-reconfigurable full glass cockpit.
