Education
The SIMONA Research Simulator is used for educational purposes by TU Delft students in both the BSc., MSc., and PhD programmes. MSc. and PhD students use it to perform experiments as part of their thesis work while others do lab exercises with it.
During the BSc. course on Flight Dynamics the students participate in a test flight with the University’s laboratory aircraft (PH-LAB). To see the aircraft’s dynamics from the pilot’s perspective they fly the same aircraft themselves in the simulator.
Some groups of the BSc. course on Test, Analysis, and Simulation use the simulator to gather human factors data they can analyse and compare to simulations.
MSc. students do human factors experiments in the simulator as part of the manual control and cybernetics course and investigate rotorcraft dynamics by flying a helicopter model as part of the rotorcraft mechanics and design course.
