  • Prevention of Bird Strikes

Despite enormous efforts to reduce the number of bird strikes, the amount of collisions between birds and aircraft is still remarkable. Involving ATC’s tower control in the process of preventing bird strikes by introducing a bird strike advisory system is expected to increase aviation safety. On the other hand, it has to be assumed that the runway capacity decreases. The here presented PhD project aims at evaluating the effects of a bird strike advisory system on an airport’s safety and capacity and specifying requirements for such a tool. For this purpose, fast-time simulations will be performed. Based on the obtained results, an algorithm for a bird-strike advisory tool will be developed to test its applicability with the existing technology.
