PhD Defense Henry Tol (cum laude)
On Monday June 4 Henry Tol successfully defended his PhD thesis titled “Finite-dimensional approximation and control of shear flows“, and obtained his PhD degree with Honours (cum laude).
Henry Tol conducted research and achieved pioneering results in the emerging field of “Advanced control for fluid flows”. He has proposed and demonstrated novel mathematical and numerical techniques for the design of controllers aimed at transitional flows. Henry has developed a numerical discretization technique based on multivariate splines that has effectively reduced solving and control of linear parabolic partial differential equations to “building with Lego”.
